How do I not pay $350-400 for a flight in 2 weeks

How do I not pay $350-400 for a flight in 2 weeks?
I want to fly from New Orleans to Vegas, Nov 1-4th. The cheapest tix are almost $400. I can get a 10% discount on AirTran, but it is still too expensive. Any ideas? I can easily afford a $400 ticket. But if I find a $200 ticket, I will have another $200 for Vegas debauchery. I was hoping someone would think outside the box. I did!... will post my final price and answer later today.

I would check out Kayak.com (they list all of the airfares for all airlines and the major online ticket sellers), and especially look after midnight, when the rates change (and tickets that were on hold and not paid for are "released" back into the availability pool). Sadly, when I just looked there, the prices were about the same as you found though :( If you are going to be staying in a hotel in Vegas, you might want to use a travel agent, since sometimes they can book packages for air & hotel that are cheaper than if purchased separatley. Call around and see if any can help :)

Check with some of the airlines' websites--- just like travel agents, they offer packages, and you may be able to pay a lower price overall to make up for the high airfare. But that is a peak travel time to Vegas so you might not have many choices.

I would recomment you to start another cashflow to be able to take flights whenever you want, to where you want. Contact me, if you really need some freedom ;) Otherwise, I shall recommend hitchhiking.

CALL the airlines...you can often get a better deal on the phone than on-line.

Southwest Airlines usually has the best prices I have seen for short notice flights, but you have to book it directly through their website. Southwest doesn't allow you to pick a seat until you board plane though. No first class seating is available on any flight either. Southwest is good for what it is.

HAHAHA If you cannot afford airfares to Vegas, how can you afford paying for hotel and gambling???? You need money to go in and play in Vegas. The cheapest was Southwest at $179 plus tax one way, but it is sold-out. so $400 r/t ain't bad.

If you want it cheaper, you're going to have to be flexible. For example, if you could go 2nd-5th instead, I see $313 with Airtran. If you could go from Gulfport, I see Allegiant Air for $231. Most of the cheapest fares require 21 days advance purchase.
