What is a reasonable expectation for an international flight?
I haven't been following international flight prices recently, though I know the cost has gone up drastically. My husband and I were discussing to France for about 3 weeks in June, and were shocked to find (on travelocity) that the cheapest flights were 1100-1200 per PERSON. I know that the days of the 400 dollar airfare are LONG dead....but I wasn't prepared for this big of a jump. I know that prices rise and dip over time, but what is a reasonable expectation for us to think we'd be able to get? (so that we can budget and decide if we can afford to go at all). We had planned to fly in/out of Washington and Paris. But Charlotte or New Orleans (in US) and Madrid (in Europe) could also work. Anyone have knowledge?

June is a peak travel time. If you fly out in April, the price would be much less. The summer months have higher airfare because most people fly during the months of June, July and August since that is when school is out. Go to the airline websites and see if they have any specials. Sometimes they do. Also see if you can purchase a travel package. When you bundle your purchase such as hotel, car rental, hotel, sometimes you save money.

I would expect in the $700-$1100 range. I know an awesome agency that specializes in international travel. They're a Travelocity partner and can negotiate some great prices and can also take a look at the other departure/arrival locations you listed. Email me if you want their info!
