travel agencies have access to unpublished fares, and packages which the websites do not. Websites ONLY have access to published fares. Back Story: I had to get a ticket to attend a wedding. The websites cheapest airfare (Ichecked SEVERAL) was $700 ea. (I was buying two) I went to a local Travel Agency and they got me a ticket, AND hotel (and that included several free meals) for $700 for BOTH! when I mentioned this huge difference to the agency, they explained the above. That by their very makeup, websites only have access to PUBLISHED fares. There are many unpublished fares and specials which travel agents can access. Always check your local travel agent before you book online - they don't charge for a quote either. Edit to add: Must clarify a mistake below. VP and Luvtech2 both stated that Travel Agents add a fee. This is just not correct. Travel Agencies get a discount from the Airlines which is where they make their money. I've NEVER known a travel agent who charged an additional fee.

Depending which airline you choose, it is generally the cheapest through that particular airlines website. Booking through a travel agent would not be cheaper because depending on the agent they may charge you for their services and because of the length of your trip it might be unnecessary.

I prefer online with expedia.com

With only 20 days left until you want to travel you need to get your ticket purchased as the prices will go up closer to the date. Airfare prices are constantly changing so if you find a lesser price it's going to be to your best interest to book. Booking through a travel agent you are going to be paying them a fee & that would add that to your ticket price. It wouldn't hurt to get prices from travel agent. The try some of the travel websites: www.expedia.com www.orbitz.com www.travelocity.com www.hotwire.com www.priceline.com(you'd bid) www.tripadvisor.com www.farespotter.net www.kayak.com The best prices may be directly booking with one of the airline website. Hope you have a wonderful trip to New Orleans!

Your question really doesn't make much sense. If you buy online other than from an airline's own website, you ARE buying through a travel agent.
