New Orleans January?
I'm going to New Orleans to volunteer and help out for a week in January, but I also want to do tourist stuff since I'm out there paying for my flight. Is there fun stuff to do, even after Katrina hit? If so, what and how much? Where should I visit?? Thanks. P.S. What about the crime rate? Is it up?

The French Quarter, the Garden District, Downtown, and Uptown didn't get damaged much at all and are pretty much back to normal. If you want to party, go to the French Quarter around the weekend. For old houses and nice restaurants, go to the Garden District. Harrah's casino is open too. Also, check out down by the riverfront, where there are boat trips and a big shopping area. You may hear a lot about the crime rate, but the truth is that it was extremely high already before Katrina. The main difference is that some of the crime has moved to residential areas that used to be safer. The tourist areas are still pretty much the same. It's pretty much like any other city. Don't go wandering around late at night, and you'll be fine. Kudos to you for visiting to help out! There is much to do.. a walk through the French Quarter alone will entertain you for a week.
