Looking for a cheap flight from New Orleans to Cologne Germany.

Looking for a cheap flight from New Orleans to Cologne Germany.?
I will be leaving on June 20,2008 to go to Germany for 2 weeks. I will be returning back to New Orleans on July 5,2008. What is the cheapest flight I can do? I have read that some people fly from us to London then from London to Germany and its cheaper for them. I'm lost when it comes to traveling. This is my first international flight and I'm trying to book as cheap as I can. I have to book soon because I still don't have my passport and according to the websites that I saw for passports, I'm required to show prof of flight tickets before they will give me a passport. What can you guys come up with to help me fly cheap!? Also any passport hints/tips would be nice also :) Thanks, Anthony

According to travelocity, you can fly for $1220 on those dates with Continental with a change in Newark. You could fly to Amsterdam with a change in Memphis on Northwest for $1014, then the train to Cologne is just a few hours and would definitely be less than $200 rt. New O. to London is $1221, so that's out on those dates. On ZOOM, you can fly from New York to London for $723, but the return would have to be July 6 or july 4; they don't fly on the 5th. but New Orleans to NYC doesn't look so cheap on those days, like over $300, and then you'd have to get to Cologne. I checked AirBerlin too, and they fly from NYC to Dusseldorf or Miami to Dusseldorf (about 35 minutes from cologne), but it looks like it would be over a thousand and you'd still have to get from N.O. to NY or MIA> I'd say go for Amsterdam. You can get the train tickets for about 48 euros roundtrip amsterdam to Cologne. Go to this site and search From "Amsterdam Centraal" to "Keulen" (that's cologne in Dutch). You can get a quick 20 minute train from the amsterdam airport to Amsterdam centraal for about 3 euros. http://www.nshispeed.nl/en

From New Orleans, I would start with Delta, they will take you to Atlanta and then probably right over the pond. Delta dominates the southern area of the US. Happy landings.

You do NOT have to show tickets or any other proof of travel plans to get a passport. According to the State Department website, passports are currently taking about 6 weeks so you should be OK if you applied in April. If you have not yet applied you need to do so on >> Monday << and pay the extra $60 for "expedited" processing. http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/first/first_830.html http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/first/first_831.html You can fly from New Orleans to Cologne via Newark on Continental for about $1135 (round-trip, including taxes). I really don't think you can do much better than that fare. Splitting a trip by flying to a big city (like London) then using a cheap airline to finish the trip sometimes saves money, but apparently not in this case. Flying from New Orleans to places like London and Frankfurt (not counting any additional travel) actually costs more than flying New Orleans to Cologne. http://www.continental.com/web/en-US/default.aspx http://www.airgorilla.com/ Good luck!
