How much does internet cost on an airplane flight?

im going to new orleans (leaving from the airport in portland, oregon) and i wanted to have internet for my iphone 2 pass the time. i was just wondering how much it was for internet access or where i could find the price.

If internet is available, it will be through the aircraft's systems, as you generally can't use mobile phones during flight.

Look it up on the airline's own website as it does vary (and you didn't tell us the airline!), if you can get internet at all.

$8 for any length for mobile devices, and for laptops: $10 for flights less than 3 hours and $13 for longer flights. This is Gogo Inflight's pricing (see link below) - I'm not sure if there are companies out there that provide wi-fi on flights. Gogo works with smartphones and other handheld devices equipped with Wi-Fi, offered by all major U.S. carriers. Platforms supported include: BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, Apple, and Nokia (Symbian S60). Voice service is not supported. And FYI I just used the inflight wi-fi this weekend with my laptop and it seems just as fast as my internet at home.

I paid $12.95 back in August.... Keep in mind, not all airlines offer in flight internet access, and even if the airline offers it, many of the airplanes don't have it. Make sure you bring an extra battery as Wi-Fi puts a drain on your phone, you'll probably only get about an hour of internet out of a full charge. Unless you are flying a coast to coast non-stop (unlikely from PDX to MSY) you probably won't have any internet access on your flights.

Very few airlines offer wi-fi presently and those that do, don't have wi-fi on most of their planes at the present time. Unless you're on American Airlines, Delta, Air Tran, Virgin Atlantic, Alsaka or Virgin America you most likely won't have wi-fi available. On the airlines that do offer wi-fi, it may not be available on many of their flights. only Virgin America presently has wi-fi on all their planes. Most airlines charge $7.95-$12.95 depending on the device you're using and the length of your flight.
