How long will it take me to drive from Orlando Florida to New Orleans, Louisiana

How long will it take me to drive from Orlando Florida to New Orleans, Louisiana?
I'm trying to find a cheap way of getting to New Orleans, and flights are cheapest to Orlando. I know it's about 650 miles to New Orleans from Orlando but is it an easy ride or ridiculous idea for only a week's holiday? Thanks for your advice... Sorry - just to make clear I'm going to rent a car and drive there and back. Thanks you two guys. I think I'll do it!

It takes about 12 hours to drive each way between Orlando and New Orleans. That gives you 5 full days in New Orleans, which is enough time for a decent visit. The trip is all via Interstate so it is an easy - if long - drive. The second answer is correct and one can make the drive in 9 to 10 hours, but only if there are no traffic delays (maybe late at night) and no stops except the minimum required for fuel & restroom (no meals). You don't need a car to get around in the French Quarter, Central Business District, or Warehouse District. Also, the parking regulations are Byzantine and there are lots of Parking Control Agents. If you drive or rent a car, leave it in a lot or garage unless you are traveling away from downtown. The regional transit authority (www.norta.com) sells 1 and 3 day passes that offer unlimited use of buses and streetcars for the day(s) you select. There are also lots of taxicabs. Hope you have a great trip!

My friend just did that, she drove at night and no traffic on high way, took her just over 9 hrs. She had a very nice peaceful calm drive.
