Will my flight be delayed because of a thunderstorm

Will my flight be delayed because of a thunderstorm?
I live in chicago and im taking a flight to new orleans on monday. We are going on a cruise and its gonna be a challenge getting to the boat in time. In chicago its going to be sunny but in new orleans is supposed to be isolated thunderstorms. Is it possible they would delay our flight?

Anything is possible. But thunderstorm delays tend to be brief. Enjoy your cruise!

Thunderstorms can delay a flight's landing or departure if they are directly over the airport. Thunderstorms in the path of the flight must be avoided by the airplane, so there may be a delay as the airplane takes a detour. In rare cases, a line of thunderstorms may be so long and dense that the pilots cannot find a space between them, in which case diversion to an alternate airport is required. Thunderstorms tend to be localized, so when they interfere with airport operations, the delay tends to be brief, as the thunderstorm soon moves away. Similarly, thunderstorms in a flight's path are usually easy to fly around. Airplanes never, ever fly through thunderstorms, which is extremely dangerous. However, it's not to hard to avoid them or wait for them to pass, so delays usually aren't too long.

It's possible. The fastest way to get form the airport in New Orleans to the cruise terminal is by taxi: http://www.flymsy.com/

You do know there is an old saying "If you have time to spare go by air!" Sometimes that really is the truth. No one can predict STORMS that accurately. A full spring line of storms can indeed delay flights. Isolated thunderstorms rarely are an issue as they are "isolated" and local and simply don't last long. Can one be over the airport at the time you need to land? YEP they can and yes that will delay your arrival. WILL ONE? Exactly how can we know that? Is it possible, yes it is possible. Usually if you need to absolutely be somewhere at a specific time be sure you get there the day before that time comes! You will have a much better trip and less worries. Simple answer, fly down Sunday, enjoy Bourbon Street!

Resist the urge to see how close you can get it. Go down the day before or several days before and get to enjoy the pleasures on NOLA. Cheers!

maybe, chicago is pretty well known for flight delays due to bad weather (and other crap) have you checked the weather forecast?
