New orleans @ halloween

New orleans @ halloween?
We've wanted to go to New Orleans for a while now, and decided to head out the week of Halloween. We got a ridiculous deal on our flight/hotel package!!! So anyhow, is there anything going on 10/27-11/04? What is swampfest? Is the zoo/aquarium worth going to? We have no kids, but I LOVE zoos :) Can anyone give me a website that explains the bus/trolly schedules around town? or where i can get a schedule once I get to town... I'd like to take a swamp tour, is that fun? plantation tour, maybe a hurricane katrina tour... what are your favorite tours? and any good websites for booking? oh and wheres the best haunted houses, being halloween, we have to hit at least one! Any brewpubs or breweries that are good? Hubby likes to hit all the breweries when we're in other towns... Any other must-see or do's for 1st timers? Any informative websites or forums that you know of would be very helpful! thanks!! I can't wait to visit!! oh yeah - and we kinda like the local places over touristy ones. Of course we're going to go to tourist stops for our first visit, but if you have any hidden gems I might not be able to find online, please let me know!! :)

Greyline has the best Katrina tour. The Mortuary haunted House: www.themortuary.net Any brewpubs or breweries that are good? Yes,the zoo and aquarium are really good[there's an imax in the aquarium]. You should hit Cafe Duman while your there, they have really good beignes! If you like the pubs and interesting times you should hit Bourbon Street. Check out the antique shops if your into that, theres some like a street down from Bourbon. They're by The Royal Sennesta Hotel. You should really check out some jazz clubs to get the real New Orleans feel.

The "local" place to go Halloween Night is going to be on Frenchmen St. The whole Quarter (Bourbon included) will be packed but Frenchmen is where you'll see all kinds of people all dressed up and what not! If you can deal with lots of people, that's def the place to go! In terms of other things to do that weekend-- there's an Abita Brewery that's a bit 'out of town' but its a pretty good little tour if you can make it out there. I don't think Jax Brewery does tours... The norta website below will have your bus/streetcar schedules. There's several plantations in the area but like the Abita, they're "out of the way" too and you won't be able to get there via buses, etc (that i know of) Personal recommendations: Port O Call (on Esplanade Ave). They have really great burgers and my fav new orleans alcoholic beverage: the Monsoon :) Its worth making it to Pat O Briens for a Hurricane too though. And maybe even Tropical Isle on Bourbon for a Handgrenade. The zoo is pretty nice (especially when the weather's good.) So is the aquarium. There's lots of theatres and museums downtown too. Anyway, hope you have a great time!
