Flying to New Orleans in October. When should I book my flight? Early or later?

Im going to new orleans (MSY) from richmond (RIC) October 9th-12th. I cant change my travel dates, and I cant leave before 6PM on friday. ive been checking so many sites, Everything is atleast $250. I check it about a week ago and it was alot cheaper. I heard its best to book a flight early, but also wait to see if the fare goes down some. I also have read that many airlines charge for baggage now. Actually all of them ive been reading into charge atleast $15. Whats the best site to look for deals & should I wait or book asap?? at the end of the month it will be a little cooler and Voodoo fest is at the end of the month. it's a pretty big concert.

hmm the best time to go to new orleans is during mardi gras which is in february, maybe you should wait until then... umm also you should book your tickets in advance!! espically if your going near mardi gras

Fares almost always go up the closer you get to the departure date, you should have booked it last week. Book it soon, it will most likely only get more expensive. Try kayak.com, they check many discount and airline websites to find the best price.

start searching everyday... there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely give you the best prices available. check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it's very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money.
